2008 Tony Awards Nominees Announced May 13


Tony Award winning actor David Hyde Pierce (Curtains) and Tony Award winning actress Sara Ramirez (Spamalot, Grey's Anatomy) announced the 2008 Tony Award nominations live at 8:30 AM on May 13 from the New York Public Library for Performing Arts at Lincoln Center.

The exciting list of nominees for Best Musical are Cry-Baby, In the Heights, Passing Strange and Xanadu.

The list for Best Play includes August:Osage County, Rock'n'Roll, The Seafarer and The 39 Steps .

Musical nominee In the Heights, a show that got its start at Off-Broadway's 37 Arts, received a whopping 14 nominations. South Pacific also collected a large array totaling in at 11, while Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park With George pulled in 9.

Tracy Letts' August: Osage County, the revival of Gypsy and new musical Passing Strange all received 7.
